A bipartisan coalition of civil rights and government oversight organizations wrote in opposition to eliminating the Senate confirmation requirement for the general counsels for the Central Intelligence Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Very few positions in those agencies are subject to Senate confirmation and hearings on the nominations provides a rare and important public opportunity for oversight.
